In 1994, Philippine record company PolyCosmic, a joint venture between a local label and international label PolyGram, released Batuhan (Still Another Ten of Another Kind), a compilation of ten rock songs from unsigned bands. Side one contains gritty rock music with a melodic flair, while side two is dominated by harsh alternative rock with less melody.

The opening "Hari Ng Sari-Sari" (King of a Kind) is performed by Bonehead, who would later record an album outright for PolyCosmic Records. The song features a hard-edged guitar riff and gritty singing. Despite the raucous guitar work and hard rock ambience, the song still has melody. In addition, the rough-hewed guitar solo is excellent. "Lahat Sa Tropa" (All for the Buddies), performed by the Philippine Violators, is ska influenced, and the song contains a pretty melody. It moves on a fast rhythm and the guitars hit the afterbeat, a characteristic of ska. "Kapayapaan" (Peacefulness), performed by Ba'giw, opens on ethnic-sounding percussion then segues to a flowing rhythmic guitar chord progression as the percussion continues. The song also contains a nice melody, sounding like something the Moody Blues would sing. "Never With Me" grooves on a punkish rhythm, and the melody is sung with heartfelt grit, sounding like the Ramones.

Side two is more alternative in nature, and much of the singing, as heard in "Kamandag" (Venom) and "Doon Sa Paraiso" (There in Paradise), consists of variations of one-note melodies. "Salamangkero" (Magician), performed by Mutiny, is drenched in dissonance. ~ David Gonzales, Rovi
